June 7th 2023, Barcelona – Cristina Gutiérrez will broaden her already-impressive motorsport skillset when the Spanish driver makes her electric rallycross debut in the FIA RX2e Championship. Cristina Gutiérrez will join this season’s grid for a few rounds. The Spanish driver will be racing in Hell, Norway and Höljes, Sweden. “Having the opportunity to compete in new disciplines is something that I always look for. To be able to complement my learning in different disciplines… it is important for me to always be doing as many kilometres as possible in a car and in this case I have been interested in entering this series for a long time because it can complement my learning to compete in Extreme E where the races are also wheel-to-wheel”, says the Spanish driver.
Joining the series in Norway, Gutiérrez will have plenty to learn as she gets up to speed with the frenetic nature of the ZEROID X1 and goes wheel-to-wheel with drivers that have more experience in this Championship. “The objective is none other than to learn and feel more comfortable in wheel-to-wheel races. I will be delighted to share moments with these great and experienced drivers and learn as much as possible from this great opportunity that I am going to have in this Championship”, states Gutiérrez.
The Spaniard became in 2017 the first Spanish car driver to finish the Dakar Rally, and in 2021 she was the second woman in history to win a stage in the Dakar Rally and the first woman to win an FIA Cross-Country World Championship.
Cristina Gutiérrez is also racing in Extreme E since its inaugural season. She finished in second place in 2021 and won the Championship in 2022. This season she is currently in fourth place in the overall standings.
Just ahead of the start of the season, the Spanish driver will be testing the car for the first time in a private test in Calafat, so that it is not completely new for her in the opening round in her debut.
The new RX2e season will start at Hell, Norway on June 17th-18th. For more information about RX2e, please visit the official website at www.fia-rx2e.com.
